A clear conscious - Just what every MP needs

A clear conscious - Just what every MP needs

1. Be crystal clean.
Selfishly demonstrate transparency in everything said and done -but don’t sell your self-respect or privacy.
2. Offer a sword.
Dissociate yourself from corrupt MPs. Offer a dignified chance to ‘redeem’ themselves rather than being forced out of office.
3.Stop wringing hands
Enough forelocks tugging already! Today, ‘sorry’ like a sofa sale – comes around all too quickly. Show integrity and speak the truth, rather than make shallow offers or mumble more mealy-mouthed excuses.
4. But say sorry anyway
The great British public prefers people to own up rather than shut- up and hope things go away. They are incredibly forgiving – Providing the error is admitted and the deeds are put to right life can go on rather than sink like the Titanic.
5. Don’t forget grass roots
MPs are voted in to serve constituents – Act for those people rather than just the cameras. Ultimately they will be the ones who will return or reject candidates in the next election
6. Be judged by your jury and ready to accept their verdict
Establish an independent commission that includes ordinary people from various walks of life and encourage open debate.
7 Step out of the Cabinet and open your closet.
We live in a world of instant disclosure via Twitter, Facebook, et al… If it can come out – it will– often in minutes. Face your public via micro-blogs etc.. But don’t go down the YouTubes with platitudes.
8. Stop dancing on coals. Start lighting a torch.
Show leadership by being proactive rather than reactive to media comment and hearsay
9. Don’t blame Green books or grey suits
Just because an official rulebook says you can or cant do something – show commonsense by using personal ethical judgment.
10. Don’t clean your undies in public
From cleaning a moat to having a tipple, break old established habits. Learn to pay for your own personal needs rather than palm the tab to others.
11 Go to bed with a clear conscious
At the end of the day, if you can sincerely say you served your public before yourself you will have a good night sleep and be ready to deliver a great day’s work. (A reward beyond any expense claim).
12. And one for Mr Martin
Recognise that when a party is over and there is nobody left, apart from a steely-eyed host, it really is probably time to leave the house – but don’t charge them for your cab home.
