US mega retail brand, Wal-Mart has confirmed the withdrawal of a range of Miley Cyrus-brand bracelets and necklaces from its stores following tests that suggested the jewellery contained elevated levels of cadmium.

The charms — also available exclusively at Walmart stores — were sold under the general brand name ‘Fashion Accessories’.

Cadium is a known carcinogen. Research suggests that as with lead, it may impede brain development in the very young.

However when worn under normal circumstances, the jewellery is safe. Concerns only arise when the jewellery is sucked or bitten.
